Italics

From DPWiki

Italics are letters designed to look slightly more cursive than the normal upright (roman) letters used in printed matter. For some letters, the shape of the italic letter is quite distinct, such as for example a and a, and g and g. Typically, italics are used to indicate emphasis or foreign words. In sans-serif type, a slanted version of the upright letters is sometimes used instead of true italics.
