Antiqua generally refers to a non-Fraktur font used in a work printed predominantly in Fraktur. This is seen mostly in older German texts on the characters in proper names or non-German words.
In the example below, the Italian name "divina Comedia" (a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy) is typeset Antiqua to differentiate it from the German text in this work printed predominantly in a Fraktur font.
