There is a ton of useful information in the DP Wiki beyond just the Official Docs. This page will help you get the most out of it.

This is not a help page on how to create a wiki page; for that, please see DPWiki:Editing.

Types of Wiki Pages

There are lots of different kinds of pages at the DP Wiki:

  • The Official Documentation is created and maintained by the admins and can't be edited by ordinary users. If you have a question, suggestion, or correction related to the Official Docs, please post in the | Documentation forum.
  • Personal and team pages. Every DP member has an individual user page, which you can use for things like storing lists to useful pages, templates, or anything else. Teams, uberprojects, and other formal or informal groups may also create pages to help coordinate DP activities.
  • Advice. Most of the pages on the wiki are created by PG users as "unofficial documentation"--advice based on their own experience. In the PG Wiki, these are often called Advice, to distinguish them from the official docs.

Finding Advice

There is an overall Advice page for each stage of the DP process, listing and organizing all pages related to that topic:

Content Providing Advice Project Management Advice Proofing Advice
Proofing Advice Formatting Advice Post-Processing Advice

There is also a Miscellaneous Advice page for advice pages that don't fit neatly into any other category.

Categories and Templates

You can also search for advice pages using categories and templates.

Categories

There are categories for each stage of the DP process and for other categories, like and. These pages contains pages that may not be included in the Advice pages; for example, out of date or obsolete pages.

Templates

There are a few templates used to organize pages on this wiki. You can find the pages with each template by visiting the template page, then clicking "What Links Here" in the left-hand menu.

  • Template:Outdated is added to a page when an otherwise useful page contains some out of date information.
  • Template:Archived is added to any page that is no longer relevant to current users and is being kept purely for archival and historical purposes.
