Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 16:22, 1 June 2007 (PDT):

"MY God, I love thee; not because"
" I hope for heaven thereby,"
"Nor yet because who love thee not"
" Are lost eternally."
""
"Thou, O my Jesus, thou didst me"
" Upon the Cross embrace;"
"For me didst bear the nails and spear,"
" And manifold disgrace,"
""
"And griefs and torments numberless,"
" And sweat of agony;"
"E'en death ¡tself; and all for one"
" Who was thine enemy."
""
"Then why, O blessèd Jesu Christ,"
" Should I not love thee well,"
"Not for the sake of winning heaven,"
" Or of escaping hell;"
""
"Not with the hope of gaining aught,"
" Not seeking a reward;"
"But as thyself hast lovèd me,"
" O ever-loving Lord!"
""
"E'en so I love thee, and will love,"
" And in thy praise will sing,"
"Solely because thou art my God,"
" And my eternal King."

Lily3 Notes

Copy the Lilypond source to your computer and compile it to create MIDIs and a PDF to check. Leave notes here, or edit the code in Lily2 and leave notes describing the changes. The L3 who declares the hymn "cleared" should upload the correctly-named files to the file repository. This ensures that what is checked and cleared is exactly what is uploaded.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 05:01, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Single quote marks in the attribution line again. I used the unicode curly single quotes for the single quote marks around the name of the Air, and this looks better when italicized. But what about the apostrophe in "tho'"? Should I use the normal (straight) apostrophe or should I use a unicode right curly single quote?

styg 19:33, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • I like the way you've done the quote marks on this--distinguishes between the quote marks and the apostrophe. The scan is too blobby for me to tell what the original apostrophe looks like.
  • 2nd system, tenor part, first note should be d instead of bes.
  • 2nd system, soprano part, final note should be ees instead of g.

Jkenny 21:27, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed tenor note
  • Fixed soprano note
  • On the curly quotes, following the example in the previous piece, I changed it so that the curly quotes are now italicized, along with the rest of the sentence. This saves on the additional code needed to jumped out of italics and in again. I hope it looks all right. It looked fine in the previous piece where you added the curly quotes but left them in italics.
  • For the apostrophe, I continued to use the straight apostrophe symbol. Now that both are italicized, the difference is not so marked, but is quite visible esp when you zoom in.

QMacrocarpa 16:03, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Checked the original, and the apostrophes look just like the right-hand single-quotes. On the whole, about quotes and apostrophes I'm covering my ears going "la la la, I can't hear you." I really don't know what we should do: the idea of putting in unicode apostrophes everywhere seems dismal, but if we don't do that, I really hope that we never go "O crud! We haven't been using the same symbol for single quotes and apostrophes!" at some point in the future....
  • "To Unicode or Not to Unicode" issues aside, this looks ready to go.

styg 18:35, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

  • I had thought about the "O crud!" factor. The straight quotes look fine in normal text--it is really only when a closing single quote appears in italics that it gets strange.
