Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 16:20, 1 June 2007 (PDT):

"LORD, when we bend before thy throne,"
" And our confessions pour,"
"Teach us to feel the sins we own,"
" And hate what we deplore."
""
"Our broken spirits pitying see,"
" And penitence impart;"
"Then let a kindling glance from thee"
" Beam hope upon the heart."
""
"When we disclose our wants in prayer"
" May we our wills resign,"
"And not a thought our bosom share"
" That is not wholly thine."
""
"Let faith each meek petition fill,"
" And waft it to the skies;"
"And teach our hearts 'tis goodness still"
" That grants it or denies."
""

Lily3 Notes

Copy the Lilypond source to your computer and compile it to create MIDIs and a PDF to check. Leave notes here, or edit the code in Lily2 and leave notes describing the changes. The L3 who declares the hymn "cleared" should upload the correctly-named files to the file repository. This ensures that what is checked and cleared is exactly what is uploaded.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 04:24, 25 June 2007 (PDT)

  • 2nd system 2nd last bar -- there is a natural sign there in the upper staff, I assumed it applies to the alto part for a e-natural.
  • Lilypond placed the natural sign immediately against the alto-e. This is different from the image, but a bit clearer?

styg 19:22, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Agree on the natural sign and its placement.
  • Added curly quotes in the header.
  • Lyrics verse 1, line 2 looks like it ends with a "." instead of ",".
  • Lyrics verse 4, line 1 looks like it ends with a "." instead of ",".

Jkenny 21:13, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • The curly quotes which you added look quite nice, even when italicized. So I think we can use curly quotes from now on, without needing to take them out of italics. (will go back and correct any previous pieces). Leaving the quotes in italics results in simpler, less cluttered code.
  • On the commas in lyrics, not really sure what to do. The periods are quite clear in the image, but I noticed P3 had changed them to commas quite deliberately. In verse 1 line 2, P3 left a [* ] indicating her opinion that it should be a comma.
  • Checked the 1933 edition--the commas are quite clear at the end of those 2 lines, and especially in verse 4, would make grammatical sense.
  • Shall we go along with P3's judgment in these cases, and leave a note for the PPer about our doubts? Added note for PPer below.

QMacrocarpa 15:38, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Checked the dubious punctuation in the 1906 original, and they're both commas.
  • There's a subtle alignment issue at the four spots where one staff has both a whole note in one part AND a dotted-1/2-note + 1/4-note in the other part. The dotted-1/2 is always just a tad to the left of the whole note in the scan.
  • I agree the alto e-natural is fine.

Jkenny 18:12, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed the dotted-1/2 notes. Also fixed the whole note in the 2nd system 2nd last measure alto, pushing it a little to the right of the soprano 1/2 note above it.

Lily3 cleared, files uploaded styg 18:27, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

Notes for PPer

  • Lyrics verse 1, line2 and verse 4, line 1: On the image, they look like they end with periods. However P3's opinion was that they should end with commas, and this accords with what is shown in the 1933 edition. Commas were also clearly seen in a hardcopy 1906 edition.
