Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 12:56, 30 May 2007 (PDT):

"O JESU Christ, from thee began"
"This healing for the soul of man,"
"By fasting sought, by fasting found,"
"Through forty days of yearly round;"
""
"That he who fell from high delight,"
"Borne down to sensual appetite,"
"By dint of stern control may rise"
"To climb the hills of Paradise."
""
"Therefore behold thy Church, O Lord,"
"And grace of penitence accord"
"To all who seek with generous tears"
"Renewal of their wasted years."
""
"Forgive the sin that we have done,"
"Forgive the course that we have run,"
"And show henceforth in evil day"
"Thyself our succour and our stay."
""
"But now let every heart prepare,"
"By sacrifice of fast and prayer,"
"To keep with joy magnifical"
"The solemn Easter festival."
""
"Father and Son and Spirit blest,"
"To thee be every prayer addrest,"
"Who art in threefold Name adored,"
"From age to age, the only Lord."
" Amen."

Lily3

We are trying out a new workflow where L3 grabs the code, compiles and checks. After clearance, L3 will name the files and upload to repository. This ensures that what is checked and cleared is exactly what is uploaded.

Notes

Notes by L2 Jkenny 09:18, 24 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Amen block - I assumed the last 2 "c" in the alto part are tied so I added a tie although a tie is not visible in image. Encountered this before in a previous piece.

styg 06:35, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

  • 1st system, 1st bar, bass line: Should there be a tie between the 4th and 5th notes? (possible typo)
  • Lyrics attribution: The word "till" (till Passion Sunday) should be lower case.

Jkenny 07:36, 27 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed "till"
  • I'm not expert enough to be sure about the tie thing.
  • Unfortunately, the arrangement in the 1933 edition is different so there are no clues from there.

QMacrocarpa 11:41, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • About the 1st system, 1st bar, bass line, 4th and 5th notes: I would not add a tie here. For one thing, there's no corresponding slur in the top voices. The plainsong arrangements are rather mysterious to me, so my inclination is to leave them alone except for things like clearly missing beats in a part or similar catastrophes.
  • About the added tie in the alto part of the Amen block-- I thought in the similar situation before, we left the tie out, with the idea that the beam ligature provided enough of a "tie." I'd be for omitting the added tie here too.
  • That's all I found.

Jkenny 20:15, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

  • I took the tie in the Amen alto line out.
  • Left the 1st system 1st bar bass notes without tie.
  • I guess we can should the image and leave a note for the PPer with questions for him to decide. So added note below.

styg 21:50, 2 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Expanded on notes to PPer. Now I'm thinking the bass part is right and maybe the tenor isn't. Something looks strange but I can't quite put my finger on it. In any case, we've matched the scan so it is Dani's call.

Notes for PPer

  • 1st system, 1st bar, bass line, 4th and 5th notes: should there be a tie? Or should there not be a tie in the tenor line in that position? Something doesn't seem to match the lyrics.
  • Amen block alto line last 2 notes: should there be a tie?
