Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 14:04, 3 July 2007 (PDT):

"ETERNAL Monarch, King most high"
"Whose Blood hath brought redemption nigh,"
"By whom the death of Death was wrought,"
"And conquering Grace's battle fought:"
""
"Ascending to the throne of might,"
"And seated at the Father's right,"
"All power in heaven is Jesu's own."
"That here his manhood had not known."
""
"That so, in nature's triple frame,"
"Each heavenly and each earthly name,"
"And things in hell's abyss abhorred,"
"May bend the knee and own him Lord."
""
"Yea, Angels tremble when they see"
"How changed is our humanity;"
"That flesh hath purged what flesh had stained,"
"And God, the Flesh of God, hath reigned."
""
"Be thou our joy and strong defence,"
"Who art our future recompense:"
"So shall the light that springs from thee"
"Be ours through all eternity."
""
"O risen Christ, ascended Lord,"
"All praise to thee let earth accord,"
"Who art, while endless ages run,"
"With Father and with Spirit One."
""
"Amen."
""

Notes by L2 Jkenny 05:24, 31 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Stems and slurs were a little hard to discern, so I compared with the 1933 edition.
  • In particular, note the strange tie in 1st system 3rd full bar tenor/bass. I think the tenor g ties to another tenor g, but this second tenor g shares a notehead with a bass g, that's why it has a downstem.

Note by L3 KenJ 15:59, 23 August 2007 (PDT)

  • System 1, measure 4: I think the tie should be shorter on the right, so as not to cross the stem. (added note after comparing [see note below]: perhaps delete tie, like in a previous hymn with apparent tie between alto and tenor note.)
  • Same location: The image doesn't show base note on the same stem as tenor. Compare with measure 2. Image quite clearly shows stem between the two, which is lacking in measure 4.
  • "See also...": I think there should be a wider divider between "see also" and Lyrics info--although I'm not so sure "Office Hymn..." belongs with lyrics, as opposed to score. Maybe. (?) Also consider reformatting to single column (see previous hymn/page/tune).
  • Lyrics, verse 1, line 1: insert comma at end of line.
  • Lyrcis, verse 4 and below (top of PDF p. 2) are further left than p. 1.
  • Make same score changes in 142 modern.

Notes by Jkenny 01:17, 24 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Removed tie in System 1 meas. 4, also the stem between bass and tenor note.
  • "See also" is now cast as a single column - same as Hymn 141 proper.
  • Forced more space between "See also" and the lyric titles/lyric text (2 blank lines). According to Hutcheson somewhere in the forum, he explained that the "Office Hymn" label applied to the words that are sung. An Office Hymn could have many tunes, but it is the words which make it an Office Hymn. Hence it belongs more properly to the lyrics than to the score.
  • Verse 1 line 1 comma inserted.
  • Moved lyric column (from verse 3 now) slightly match verses on first page.
  • V2 up.

Note by KenJ 19:00, 24 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Clear.
