Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 08:57, 28 June 2007 (PDT):

"COME, ye faithful, raise the strain"
" Of triumphant gladness;"
"God hath brought his Israel"
" Into joy from sadness;"
"Loosed from Pharaoh's bitter yoke"
" Jacob's sons and daughters;"
"Led them with unmoistened foot"
" Through the Red Sea waters."
""
"'Tis the Spring of souls to-day;"
" Christ hath burst his prison,"
"And from three days' sleep in death"
" As a Sun hath risen;"
"All the winter of our sins,"
" Long and dark, is flying"
"From his Light, to whom we give"
" Laud and praise undying."
""
"Now the Queen of seasons, bright"
" With the Day of splendour,"
"With the royal Feast of feasts,"
" Comes its joy to render;"
"Comes to glad Jerusalem,"
" Who with true affection"
"Welcomes in unwearied strains"
" Jesu's Resurrection."
""
"Neither might the gates of death,"
" Nor the tomb's dark portal,"
"Nor the watchers, nor the seal,"
" Hold thee as a mortal;"
"But to-day amidst the twelve"
" Thou didst stand, bestowing"
"That thy peace which evermore"
" Passeth human knowing."
""

Notes by L2 Jkenny 04:31, 10 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Greek was taken from the wiki subpage with all the Greek snippets contributed by the Greek thread.
  • Treatment of italics: 1584 was not in italics as it is not a case where the complete sentence or phrase is italics, whereas bar 7 is in italics because the complete phrase within the brackets is (following F1/F2 conventions.)

Notes by L3 KenJ 19:32, 21 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Move author/translator section right, as in a recent hymn?
  • Lyrics title: I realize there are differences in Greek formatting at DP, but since the first diacritical mark includes an acute accent, I think the other two (straight apostrophes) should also be acute accents. I keep telling myself that some day I should read the project discussion for this hymnal.
  • Also, has it been the norm to center the lyrics title and add the transliteration to the right, rather than centering the title/transliteration as one entity?

Notes by Jkenny 20:43, 21 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Moved author rightwards, but not sure how far to go. It's aesthetic thing - I got it to just overlap the right edge of the lyrics slightly. I think going all the way to the right margin is a bit far, and leaves a gap between the author and the lyrics.
  • Greek: I'm afraid I don't know any Greek at all. We sought help from the Greek thread and cut and pasted the contributions. This is the unicode of the text (from the Lily code itself) enlarged: "Αἴσωμεν πάντες λαοί."
  • From this, it looks like the stuff above the alpha and the iota are acute accents, but somehow when the pdf is generated, the acute accents lose most of their slant. Could be a function of the font Windows uses.
  • Yes, so far we have centered the Greek, and placed the transliteration to the right. Dani also said he might remove the transliteration (he hasn't decided yet), so if he decides to remove it, the Greek will be left centered, which is fine.
  • V2 up.

Notes by KenJ 22:22, 21 August 2007 (PDT)

  • That may be too far right if the transliteration disappears, but you seem to understand what I meant. Looks great, now.
  • Yes, the accents in the unicode is what I was referring to. Not much you can do I suppose, if you have the code in the text.
  • Agree about centering/transilteration. That's fine. Thanks for taking time to explain things to me.
  • Clear it.
