Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 19:46, 26 June 2007 (PDT):

  • NOTE: Not sure how part 1, part 2 stuff works-- maybe only part of lyrics go with each???
"THE day draws on with golden light,"
"Glad songs go echoing through the height."
"The broad earth lifts an answering cheer,"
"The deep makes moan with wailing fear."
""
"For lo, he comes, the mighty King,"
"To take from death his power and sting,"
"To trample down his gloomy reign"
"And break the weary prisoner's chain."
""
"Enclosed he lay in rocky cell,"
"With guard of armèd sentinel;"
"But thence returning, strong and free,"
"He comes with pomp of jubilee."
""
"The sad Apostles mourn him slain,"
"Nor hope to see their Lord again;"
"Their Lord, whom rebel thralls defy,"
"Arraign, accuse, and doom to die."
""
"But now they put their grief away,"
"The pains of hell are loosed to-day;"
"For by the grave, with flashing eyes,"
"'Your Lord is risen,' the Angel cries."
""
"Maker of all, to thee we pray,"
"Fulfil in us thy joy to-day;"
"When death assails, grant, Lord, that we"
"May share thy Paschal victory."
""
"To thee who, dead, again dost live,"
"All glory, Lord, thy people give;"
"All glory, as is ever meet,"
"To Father and to Paraclete. Amen."

%% a second set of macro settings for stemless long notes ( 2x duration of regular white note )
%% this one uses X-offset instead of force-hshift.
%% All long notes are offset slightly to the right with respect to any beamed notes which
%% they are aligned with. Normally, this is done with force-hshift.
%% However, when 2 long notes occur one atop the other (i.e. in S + A pats or in T + B parts), then applying force-hshift
%% to both does not work. Hence one note needs to be moved with the regular force-hshift in the \ln macro above,
%% while the other is moved with X-offset with the macro \lnb
%% In general force-hshift is preferred whenever possible as slurs are adjusted automatically, while X-offset especially
%% when used with a bottom slur often results in a slur starting too far to the left and which then needs manual adjustment.

Notes by L3 KenJ 20:12, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

  • System 1, measure 2: I question the tenor tie (how can one voice stay on one word when the others sing the next?).
  • Note just below score: Put "142" in plain text to emphasize in italics? or is that just for hymn numbers?
  • Lyrics, verse 5: Apostrophes used for left and right single-quotes (which is what I've seen in previous hymns). Inconsistent.
  • Another candidate for 2-column lyrics to fit hymn on one page? (two verses and Amen score on second PDF page.)

Notes by Jkenny 21:41, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Yes the tenor ties are puzzling, but no reason to slur at those points either. So I suggest we leave a note for the PPer. Unfortunately the 1933 edition uses a totally different arrangement so no comparison possible. The only explanation I can think of is that the white notes are not meant to be sung - they are the organ accompaniment. Singers use the plainsong notes and sing in unison. But then, I don't know how plainsong is supposed to sound like.
  • Rendered "142" in plain text to match image.
  • Also the "2" in "Part 2."
  • Lyrics verse 5 - replaced the apostrophes with left and right single-quotes.
  • This one didn't have enough space to squeeze everything on one page - just a little short.
  • And strange that the uneven blank line thing didn't happen. May be it only happens when there are move than 4-5 verses?
  • Version 2 up.

Notes by KenJ 15:38, 19 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Agree with leaving note for PPer.
  • Just remember to be consistent about taking numerals out of italics.
  • I knew this one was a little longer than the last... that's why I put a question mark after suggestion its candidacy. That's OK. Thanks for checking.
  • Great work. It's a pleasure working with you.
  • I've not been looking for a pattern in uneven blank lines. There probably is one. There usually is.
  • Let's clear this one also.

Notes for PPer

  • Note the tenor ties. Are they ties or slurs?
