Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 19:41, 26 June 2007 (PDT):

"YE choirs of new Jerusalem,"
"To sweet new strains attune your theme;"
"The while we keep, from care released,"
"With sober joy our Paschal feast:"
""
"When Christ, unconquer'd Lion, first"
"The dragon's chains by rising burst:"
"And while with living voice he cries,"
"The dead of other ages rise."
""
"Engorged in former years, their prey"
"Must death and hell restore to-day:"
"And many a captive soul, set free,"
"With Jesus leaves captivity."
""
"Right gloriously he triumphs now,"
"Worthy to whom should all things bow;"
"And joining heaven and earth again,"
"Links in one commonweal the twain."
""
"And we, as these his deeds we sing,"
"His suppliant soldiers, pray our King,"
"That in his palace, bright and vast,"
"We may keep watch and ward at last."
""
"Long as unending ages run,"
"To God the Father, laud be done:"
"To God the Son, our equal praise,"
"And God the Holy Ghost, we raise."
"Amen."

%% this one uses X-offset instead of force-hshift.
%% All long notes are offset slightly to the right with respect to any beamed notes which

%% However, when 2 long notes occur one atop the other (i.e. in S + A pats or in T + B parts), then applying force-hshift
%% to both does not work. Hence one note needs to be moved with the regular force-hshift in the \ln macro above,
%% while the other is moved with X-offset with the macro \lnb
%% In general force-hshift is preferred whenever possible as slurs are adjusted automatically, while X-offset especially
%% when used with a bottom slur often results in a slur starting too far to the left and which then needs manual adjustment.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 09:04, 10 July 2007 (PDT)

  • Last plainsong note in 2nd system is set to double duration to align with the white notes b below it.
  • Amen - there is quite clearly a tie in the alto part first 2 notes, so I added it, but then, how would this be sung? The altos have to hold the "A" longer than the others?

Notes by L3 KenJ 23:10, 17 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Plainsong System 1, second measure: Stems on notes in plainsong sure look short, especially the first note here. Intentional? OK? I don't know.
  • The image shows "Chorus novae Jerusalem." one line higher (no blank line between it and the text above). I looked at p162-H95 and p163-H96 PDF's, and they show to blank line either.
  • The image shows "Chorus novae Jerusalem." left of center, but I think centering it looks better. (personal opinion.)
  • Lyrics verse 1, line 2: Looks like it should be moved left one(?) space in order to match the image more closely, but probably more important to maintain consistency.
  • Lyrics: Narrower blank line between verses 4 and 5.
  • Amen, Plainsong: hardly any stem on last note.
  • Lyrics, Amen: Amen is right below last verse (no blank line), not at the end of the last line. If PP'er has approved this, then so be it.

Notes by Jkenny 02:31, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Stems on plainsong notes are indeed a bit short, but that is the default plainsong "style" which Lilypond uses, so we can't really control it.
  • Moved "Chorus novae" up and centered it.
  • Verse 1 line 2 - yup, we standardized at 2 spaces for this. Sometimes it looks a bit much especially when the drop cap is slender at the bottom like the "Y" here.
  • Fixed blank line which is narrower - looks like you've discovered a Lilypond bug! No reason why this should happen, as the code here is exactly the same as between other verses.
  • On the plainsong Amen, yes we've discussed this before and couldn't fix it. It's default Lilypond behaviour. The "sash"-like thing is too tall, resulting in the stem on the left almost disappearing, and sometimes the notehead on the right looks "neckless" and merged with the sash. Lilypond's support for plainsong is still developmental, and not very advanced. We thought about customising our own graphics for the "sash", but felt it was too risky - it may not work on other user's computer. So we thought it best to stick to the default Lilypond output using default Lilypond code, so that the code will still be valid under a future version of Lilypond where the "sash" thing is improved.
  • There are special fonts to make the plainsong notes look better, but again, we thought it best not to use them (and in any case, they cost money - commercial fonts). When the project is posted, notes can be left telling users these options so they can use if they want.
  • Amen word on last line - here I was following F1/F2 conventions to rejoin a long line of poetry. Hard to say whether the Amen was forced down because of horizontal space constraints, or it is really meant to be done. Compare e.g. 163.png where horizontal space is not a constraint. So I followed the style there, and joined the Amen, with some blank space. I suggest we leave a note here for the PPer so he can decide.
  • Version 2 up.

Notes by L3 KenJ 13:58, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

  • I thought Chorus novae was already centered. My bad.
  • I agree with all you say, and thanks for all the info.
  • One more hymn completed.
  • Nice work. Clear it.

  • V2 cleared and uploaded to repository.
