Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 15:11, 2 June 2007 (PDT):

"WHEN I survey the wondrous Cross,"
" On which the Prince of glory died,"
"My richest gain I count but loss,"
" And pour contempt on all my pride."
""
"Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast"
" Save in the death of Christ my God;"
"All the vain things that charm me most."
" I sacrifice them to his Blood."
""
"See from his head, his hands, his feet."
" Sorrow and love flow mingled down;"
"Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,"
" Or thorns compose so rich a crown?"
""
"His dying crimson like a robe,"
" Spreads o'er his body on the Tree;"
"Then am I dead to all the globe."
" And all the globe is dead to me."
""
"Were the whole realm of nature mine,"
" That were a present far too small;"
"Love so amazing, so divine."
" Demands my soul, my life, my all."
""

Lily3 Notes

Copy the Lilypond source to your computer and compile it to create MIDIs and a PDF to check. Leave notes here, or edit the code in Lily2 and leave notes describing the changes. The L3 who declares the hymn "cleared" should upload the correctly-named files to the file repository. This ensures that what is checked and cleared is exactly what is uploaded.

  • The natural sign on Webbe's Original isn't displayd on my system, i've used "\musicglyph #'"accidentals.natural"".
  • Webbe's Original, "\set Staff.instrumentName" is used, can't think a better way.
  • "line-width" and "packed" is used, is there a command for un-justified music break or something like system width ?.
  • Cant find a way to align Webbe's original and Amen scores.
  • Another idea is to put Webbe's and Amen parts together with invisible objects between them.

  • The natural in parenthesis on top of the "Webbe's original" score section - what does this natural symbol in parenthesis mean?
  • There's no choice but to use text markup to produce this natural. Using \musicglyph etc to produce the natural sign is fine. A shorter way is simply \natural.
  • \set Staff.instrumentName is probably the best way to insert all the text to the left of the Webbe's Original score.
  • To produce the un-justified music break, you can set ragged-right=##t in the layout block. But this leaves Lilypond free to make the line of music too long or too short according to its whims. So sometimes specifying "line-width" may be necessary. Here, ragged-right etc seems to work well enough.
  • Aligning the "Webbe's original" and the "Amen": I think this is probably not necessary. The printer had to do this in the original to fit the page but we don't have the same constraint. It probably can be done though, with a lot of horribly complex coding gymnastics.
  • Is it necessary to generate a midi for the Webbe's original section?

by ebykm 11:38, 3 July 2007 UTC

  • I guess it is just a cautionary accidental to remind singers that it isn't G sharp. Especially when a verse is sung to Webbe's original.
  • I've noticed it is possible to name grandstaff, so no need to center align the text. But seems it only works for string instruments, except the piano.
  • "ragged-right" or "left" made line of music too long.
  • Regarding the midi for Webbe's section, i was thinking of adding code to generate a suppliment score with the Webbe's scetion replacing the two measures and generate midi. What do you think ?.
  • Oh, don't you think the Webbe's original score section should be on the same page ?

Jkenny 07:11, 3 July 2007 (PDT)

  • In this case ragged-right on its own worked fine, the Webbe's original snippet is about the right length for the page.
  • Ok, I have arranged the page layout so that the Webbe's original snippet comes right after the main score, lyrics next, last, the Amen.
  • 3 midis are generated, the first is the main hymn tune, the second is the entire tune again but with Webbe's original arrangement for the 2 measures. This tune with Webbe's original sounds strange, not like the more familiar main tune. The third midi is the Amen.

  • Tempo marking: "slow" should not be capitalized.
  • 1st system, last bar, bass line last note should be a instead of g.
  • 3rd system, 2nd bar, soprano and alto "d" offset needs to be fixed.
  • Harmonization note below music: Needs a period after Hymn 320.
  • Webbe's original staves: The notes in the treble staff appear smaller than the notes in the bass staff.
  • Verse 4, line 1: There shouldn't be a * before this line.
  • Verse 4, line 3 should end with a comma instead of period. (Added to proofing errors.)
  • Verse 5, line 3 should end with a comma instead of period. (Added to proofing errors.)

  • Fixed tempo marking.
  • Fixed 1st system last bass note.
  • Fixed 3rd system 2nd bar soprano/alto offsets.
  • Fixed harmonization note.
  • Fixed size of notes in Webbe's original staves.
  • Removed "*" from verse 4.
  • Inserted commas, verse 4 and 5 lines 3.
