Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 15:01, 2 June 2007 (PDT):

"O SACRED head, sore wounded,"
" Defiled and put to scorn;"
"O kingly head, surrounded"
" With mocking crown of thorn:"
"What sorrow mars thy grandeur?"
" Can death thy bloom deflower?"
"O countenance whose splendour"
" The hosts of heaven adore."
""
"Thy beauty, long-desirèd,"
" Hath vanished from our sight;"
"Thy power is all expirèd."
" And quenched the light of light."
"Ah me! for whom thou diest,"
" Hide not so far thy grace:"
"Show me, O Love most highest,"
" The brightness of thy face."
""
"* I pray thee, Jesus, own me,"
" Me, Shepherd good, for thine;"
"Who to thy fold hast won me,"
" And fed with truth divine."
"Me guilty, me refuse not,"
" Incline thy face to me,"
"This comfort that I lose not,"
" On earth to comfort thee."
""
"In thy most bitter passion"
" My heart to share doth cry,"
"With thee for my salvation"
" Upon the Cross to die."
"Ah, keep my heart thus movèd"
" To stand thy Cross beneath,"
"To mourn thee, well-belovèd,"
" Yet thank thee for thy death."
""
"* My days are few, O fail not,"
" With thine immortal power,"
"To hold me that I quail not"
" In death's most fearful hour:"
"That I may fight befriended,"
" And see in my last strife"
"To me thine arms extended"
" Upon the Cross of life."

Lily3 Notes

Copy the Lilypond source to your computer and compile it to create MIDIs and a PDF to check. Leave notes here, or edit the code in Lily2 and leave notes describing the changes. The L3 who declares the hymn "cleared" should upload the correctly-named files to the file repository. This ensures that what is checked and cleared is exactly what is uploaded.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 19:56, 26 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Lyric attribution: I rejoined "cruentatum" and put it on the top line
  • The Latin "Salve ... caputatum" looks upright rather than italics, so I rendered it upright. Do you agree?
  • Fraktur - second last word - assumed it is "und" although it looks like "uud"

Comments by ebykm 8:28, 27 June 2007 UTC

  • The Latin "Salve ... caputatum" is plain text.
  • Fraktur - the word in question is "und".
  • Suggestion regarding Fraktur fonts, I find the font "GF Gesetz" matches the font used in the book than "HumboldtFraktur".

Jkenny 07:45, 27 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Gesetz looks ok, quite similar to Humboldt except not as bold (that is, lighter weight). Can you confirm that Gesetz works on a Macintosh but Humboldt did not?

ebykm 20:53, 28 June 2007 UTC

  • Yep, Lilypond refuses to use Humboldt on my system. Gesetz for Macintosh contain PostScript and Mac Font suitcase files. Though Mac's can use truetype fonts (those confirming to TrueType spec), if fonts created specially for Windows is installed, some applications won't be able to use them, may be that's the reason.

Jkenny 06:38, 29 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Ok, that's a good reason to use GF Gesetz. Have changed the code, and code comments.

styg 21:09, 11 July 2007 (PDT)

  • GF Gesetz is ok by me.
  • I found no problems.
