Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 12:16, 12 September 2007 (PDT):

"AVE Maria! blessèd Maid!"
"Lily of Eden's fragrant shade!"
" Who can express the love"
"That nurtured thee, so pure and sweet,"
"Making thy heart a shelter meet"
" For Jesus' holy Dove!"
""
"Ave Maria! Mother blest,"
"To whom, caressing and caressed,"
" Clings the eternal Child;"
"Favoured beyond Archangels' dream."
"When first on thee with tenderest gleam"
" Thy new-born Saviour smiled."
""
"Thou wept'st meek Maiden, Mother mild,"
"Thou wept'st upon thy sinless Child,"
" Thy very heart was riven:"
"And yet, what mourning matron here"
"Would deem thy sorrows bought too dear"
" By all on this side heaven!"
""
"A Son that never did amiss,"
"That never shamed his Mother's kiss,"
" Nor crossed her fondest prayer:"
"E'en from the Tree he deign'd to bow"
"For her his agonizèd brow,"
" Her, his sole earthly care."
""
"Ave Maria! thou whose name"
"All but adoring love may claim."
" Yet may we reach thy shrine;"
"For he, thy Son and Saviour, vows"
"To crown all lowly lofty brows"
" With love and joy like thine."

Notes by Ebykm 09:52, 22 November 2007 (PST)

  • Tempo of this hymn, it could be a dust on the scan, quaver = 108, can someone clarify ?.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 20:19, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

  • Tempo is indeed 4=108 confirmed with 1933 edition.
  • Thanks Ebykm, music was fine, I only added lyrics and layout. A really nice hymn.
  • Lyrics: I felt that there needed to be more space between the hymn note and the lyric author's name. Tried adding a few lines but it didn't work. Add more than 1 line and it pushed the whole block of lyrics onto the next page. Add 1 line and it pushed the top music system against the header (even more ugly). The only other option was to have a single verse orphaned on page 1 and push verse 2 to page 2 but that's not so nice either. So it was a devil and deep blue sea situation, and I left it the way you see it now.
