Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 14:06, 12 August 2007 (PDT):

"BLESSÈD City, heavenly Salem,"
" Vision dear of peace and love,"
"Who, of living stones upbuilded,"
" Art the joy of heaven above,"
"And, with Angel cohorts circled,"
" As a bride to earth dost move!"
""
"From celestial realms descending,"
" Bridal glory round her shed,"
"To his presence, decked with jewels,"
" By her Lord shall she be led:"
"All her streets, and all her bulwarks,"
" Of pure gold are fashionèd."
""
"Bright with pearls her portals glitter,"
" They are open evermore;"
"And, by virtue of his merits,"
" Thither faithful souls may soar,"
"Who for Christ's dear name in this world"
" Pain and tribulation bore."
""
"Many a blow and biting sculpture"
" Fashioned well those stones elect."
"In their places now compacted"
" By the heavenly Architect,"
"Who therewith hath willed for ever"
" That his palace should be decked."
""
"Laud and honour to the Father;"
" Laud and honour to the Son;"
"Laud and honour to the Spirit;"
" Ever Three, and ever One:"
"Consubstantial, co-eternal,"
" While unending ages run. Amen."

Notes by L2 Jkenny 21:00, 28 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Not sure whether the "See also" section of the plainsong equivalent hymns should also be here. But since this is a modern version of the plainsong hymn for the same purpose, I thought the "See also" section should be included as well in order to make this hymn pdf complete in and of itself.

Notes by L3 KenJ 17:48, 25 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Final bass note of score should be an octave lower. (Repeat for hymn 170m, as the tune is the same.)
  • Lyrics, verse 1, line 2: should be "Vision dear of peace and love," (whole line wrong).
  • Verse 4, end of line 2: possible comma after elect. (These last two "comments" are the same as in hymn 169, as the lyrics are the same.)
  • See also...637 Lo!: Surely the colon after here should be another exclamation point, as after Lo. (This "comment" is the same as in hymn 169.)
  • "See also": Makes sense. I suggest we leave it up to the PP'er to decide whether "See also..." should be included in "Modern Tunes".

Notes by L2 Jkenny 18:55, 25 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed final bass note.
  • Fixed verse 1 line 2.
  • Fixed comma after elect.
  • Fixed exclamation mark after "here" in See also...637 Lo!
  • V2 up.
