Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted --QMacrocarpa 14:06, 12 August 2007 (PDT):

"BLESSÈD City, heavenly Salem,"
" Vision dear of peace and love,"
"Who, of living stones upbuilded,"
" Art the joy of heaven above,"
"And, with Angel cohorts circled,"
" As a bride to earth dost move!"
""
"From celestial realms descending,"
" Bridal glory round her shed,"
"To his presence, decked with jewels,"
" By her Lord shall she be led:"
"All her streets, and all her bulwarks,"
" Of pure gold are fashionèd."
""
"Bright with pearls her portals glitter,"
" They are open evermore;"
"And, by virtue of his merits,"
" Thither faithful souls may soar,"
"Who for Christ's dear name in this world"
" Pain and tribulation bore."
""
"Many a blow and biting sculpture"
" Fashioned well those stones elect."
"In their places now compacted"
" By the heavenly Architect,"
"Who therewith hath willed for ever"
" That his palace should be decked."
""
"Laud and honour to the Father;"
" Laud and honour to the Son;"
"Laud and honour to the Spirit;"
" Ever Three, and ever One:"
"Consubstantial, co-eternal,"

Notes by L2 Jkenny 08:12, 28 August 2007 (PDT)

  • The SATB staffs have a lot of explicit e-flats, even when they are not necessary. I am however following the standard rule that a flatted note continues to remain flatted until the end of a measure unless cancelled explicitly. The redundant explicit flat symbols are therefore cautionery accidentals, and are there just to serve as reminders.
  • Note also that the Amen block has a different key signature - the main staff is f major and the Amen block is b-flat major. A printing error? But given the number of e-flats in the main staffs, perhaps not an error after all?
  • No help from the 1933 edition here I'm afraid, as the arrangement is slightly different.

Notes by L3 KenJ 17:45, 25 September 2007 (PDT)

  • System 1, measure 1, last bass note (and two notes later - measure 2, note 2): flat sign missing. (Repeat for hymn 170, as the tune is the same.)
  • See also...637 Lo!: Surely the colon after "here" should be another exclamation point, as after "Lo". (Repeat for hymns 169m, 170, and 170m as well.)
  • Lyrics, verse 1, line 2: should be "Vision dear of peace and love," (whole line wrong).
  • Verse 4, end of line 2: possible comma after elect. (Repeat these last two "comments" in hymn 169m as well, as the lyrics are the same.)
  • I agree with "perhaps not an error after all" for same reason (more e-flats than not)

Notes by L2 Jkenny 18:37, 25 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Inserted explicit flat-signs.
  • Fixed exclamation mark after "here".
  • Fixed Verse 1 line 2.
  • Fixed comma after "elect".
  • Errata updated for errors.
  • V2 up.
