Then create a link in this section to that uploaded midi file.

Note: I took a lot of liberties in an effort to make the notes come out even. I added stems to what look like whole notes, and made most of the notes black since there are no barred (flagged) "white" notes (that I know of). Here is my "interpretation". I hope someone can use it. KenJ

%% a second set of macro settings for stemless long notes ( 2x duration of regular white note )
%% this one uses X-offset instead of force-hshift.
%% All long notes are offset slightly to the right with respect to any beamed notes which
%% they are aligned with. Normally, this is done with force-hshift.
%% However, when 2 long notes occur one atop the other (i.e. in S + A pats or in T + B parts), then applying force-hshift
%% to both does not work. Hence one note needs to be moved with the regular force-hshift in the \ln macro above,
%% while the other is moved with X-offset with the macro \lnb
%% In general force-hshift is preferred whenever possible as slurs are adjusted automatically, while X-offset especially
%% when used with a bottom slur often results in a slur starting too far to the left and which then needs manual adjustment.

Notes by L2 Jkenny 08:07, 13 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Thanks, KenJ. Plainsong is tricky at the best of times, and this is one of the harder pieces.
  • What you did was useful and did save me a lot of time at L2.
  • I never got round to updating the guidelines on how to do simple text notation for a plainsong piece, I guess I should do so now.
  • How we reproduce the beamed or tailed minims (white notes) is to trick Lilypond into thinking that minims (1/2 notes) are quavers (1/8 notes). So a c-white note with stem is c8 and a c-beam-e is c8 e8. So the time durations have been divided by 4. Then some settings are used to turn the noteheads white and suppress the tails while allowing beams.
  • A stemless white note (a whole note or semibreve) is thus, dividing by 4, a quarter note. So a stemless g is g4. A dotted stemless g is g4.
  • I'll put these tips into the notation guidelines.

Notes by L3 KenJ 19:06, 17 September 2007 (PDT)

  • System 1, last soprano note: should be one octave higher.
  • Measure 1, second whole note: should be two over-lapping whole notes(tenor and bass).

Notes by L2 Jkenny 21:32, 17 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed system 1 last sop note.
  • Fixed Meas.1 overlapping notes.

  • Your correction to system 1, last sop note one octave higher made all the following sop notes one octave higher, too. Please change all notes after the corrected one back to where they belong. I know, I know... your nemesis, the apostrophe, did it, again. :) Have no fear, help is near. I hope to be helping with that soon. I plan on learning some Lilypond, but will probably stick to easy corrections.I seem to remember reading somewhere in the instructions, that I can make corrections that I know how to make.
