Lyrics copied from P3 and perl-formatted--QMacrocarpa 14:23, 16 May 2007 (PDT):

"Jesu, the Father's only Son,"
"Whose death for all redemption won;"
"Before the worlds, of God most high"
"Begotten all ineffably:"
""
"The Father's light and splendour thou,"
"Their endless hope to thee that bow;"
"Accept the prayers and praise to-day"
"That through the world thy servants pay."
""
"Salvation's author, call to mind"
"How, taking form of humankind,"
"Born of a Virgin undefiled,"
"Thou in man's flesh becam'st a child."
""
"Thus testifies the present day,"
"Through every year in long array,"
"That thou, salvation's source alone,"
"Proceededst from the Father's throne."
""
"Whence sky, and stars, and sea's abyss,"
"And earth, and all that therein is,"
"Shall still, with laud and carol meet,"
"The Author of thine advent greet."
""
"And we who, by thy precious blood"
"From sin redeemed, are marked for God,"
"On this the day that saw thy birth,"
"Sing the new song of ransomed earth:"
""
"For that thine advent glory be,"
"O Jesu, virgin-born to thee;"
"With Father, and with Holy Ghost,"
"From men and from the heavenly host. Amen."

Notes

Notes by Jkenny 02:19, 25 May 2007 (PDT)

  • This is trying out using paper defaults as much as possible. Lyrics conuldn't get into page 1 and didn't try to force them, so they stay on page 2.
  • Left the "Christmas Day" out of lyrics titles - since it is already in the page header.
  • Serious musical question: what is an Office Hymn, and is 17 (Modern) an Office Hymn? May be Office means official, and that probably refers to the Hymn 17 proper, 17 (Modern) is therefore an alternative. Is it still called an Office Hymn?

Notes by Jkenny 18:12, 26 May 2007 (PDT)

  • Typos fixed.
  • What I have learnt is Office Hymns are for morning and evenings. Hence there are Office Hymn M and Office Hymn E. For the moment let's consider the Alternatives and Modern Tunes as also deserving of the "Office Hymn" title. The PPer can remove them later if we guessed wrong.

QMacrocarpa 14:13, 27 May 2007 (PDT)

  • I don't know whether both are Office Hymns or just the plainsong versions. I suggest asking Dani for his preference, because I think this may come up many times. While Googling I discovered that our file repository comes up in the first page of results for an "office hymn" (with quotes) search!
  • There is an extra space between the hymn number and (Modern Tune) in this one compared to 083. I prefer a single space.
  • Otherwise, looks fine to me. :)

Notes by Jkenny 05:22, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

  • Fixed space after hymn number.
  • Will ask Dani about office hymn thing after he has replied about his code review.

stygiania 22:18, 29 May 2007 (PDT)

  • Looks good to me. Waiting for office hymn word from Dani.

Revision notes Jkenny 18:50, 10 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Forum discussion: Hutcheson's advice was that Office Hymn describes the hymn (lyrics) rather than a specific tune. Hence several alternative tunes can all carry the "Office Hymn" label since they are all the same hymn.
  • Added more comments
  • Re-adjusted lyric titles and attributions
  • Music and lyric text untouched.
  • This becomes version 4.
