Talk:Transliteration

Transliteration is source-language-dependent; a careful transliterator won't turn β into B in modern Greek, as that has a v sound. Hence the LOC transliteration tables for Greek are different for Modern Greek and Ancient Greek. On the flip side, it's target language dependent; Чехов is Chekhov in English, Tschechow in German, Ĉeĥov in Esperanto and Tchekhov in French.--Dvdeug 18:34, 2 April 2010 (PDT)
