Jmdyck 01:35, 9 June 2006 (PDT): I'd be inclined to guess that the word "proofing' is used pretty much interchangeably with "proofreading" (i.e., with either the specific or the general sense), as opposed to only (or chiefly) being used with the specific sense.
- Well, I certainly haven't been around here as long as you have, but both in what I've happened to run across at DP, and while working with my publisher, while "proofreading" is often used in both a specific and a more general sense, "proofing" is almost always seen as a subset of proofreading's general sense. And the way I see it, encouraging that particular distinction here can only help to make things less confusing for some DPers. But the great thing about a Wiki is that if you disagree with something on a page, you are more than welcome to change it. :) kraester 05:36, 9 June 2006 (PDT)
