Talk:Projects needing OCR

From DPWiki

Why not reorganize into a short list, like this:

A. U. Thor, The Title, example.zip, 345 pages at 400 DPI, Scanned by Jeroen Hellingman.

--Jeroen Hellingman

I note a couple of entries on this page have very long lines. Should the Wiki or my browser automatically wrap them? Or will they need hand-editing?

--Dave morgan 08:45, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

I think they should probably be reformatted. They're long because they start with spaces, and that means they are set by the wiki markup as "preformatted". They'd be prettier if they were marked up some other way. Vaguery 07:58, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

We can go for variable resp. definition lists:
Title
Martina
Author
Hugo von Langenstein
Language
German, Middle High (ca.1050-1500) with German
Genre
Poetry
Status
Clearance OK
Format
.tif
Pages
770 pages (antiqua!)
Notes
scanned by me (400dpi)

--Keichwa 08:22, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Can you compare the De2164 entry to the pvachusk one, and see which looks better?

  • Title: Martina
  • Author: Hugo von Langenstein
  • Language: German, Middle High (ca.1050-1500) with German
  • Genre: Poetry
  • Status: Clearance OK
  • Format: .tif
  • Pages: 770 pages (antiqua!)
  • Notes: scanned by me (400dpi)

--Dave morgan 08:59, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

That's the wrong list type. And I do not like bulleted lists, esp. those with colored bullets are ugly.--Keichwa 09:34, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

I have reverted both my changes, your style might be technically correct, but

I find
it very
hard to
read
my eyes go up
sometimes
rather than
down to the line below

Yes, the default definition list is not the best for our purpose. We will have write a template macro. Let's try... It is cryptic:

Status: Clearance OK

Notes:

That looks better, getting the right fields on the right lines may take quiet a few tries with the 'preview page' button. Can I edit the template to add other fields?

Many Thanks --Dave morgan 07:55, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

I have now edited the template and added subtitle and notes fields (and tweaked your example on this page), but how do I handle the equals sign in the clearance key? --Dave morgan 08:08, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

For usability reasons, I propose to provide a "basic" template for the 4 or 5 essential fields, and an "advanved" version for power users. And leave out the "Notes:"--simply add additional blurb after "}}" ;) --Keichwa 08:12, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

ok - I will leave that with you (make sure you try an equal sign on the clearance key line, it causes some of the output to dissappear!), and go hunting DP id's to make sure all the entries have working 'PM me' lines. --Dave morgan 08:17, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

To use an equals sign in a template parameter, you have to name the parameter explicitly. I've never seen a clearance line with an equals sign in it, though... Mikeyc21 08:21, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

All the clearance lines that were copied over from DP on the content page are of the form 'Clearance OK key=20060509091316pusey', should I change them all to '20060509091316pusey'?--Dave morgan 08:30, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

See forumpost:194466 for the definition of "clearance information" that I'm using. Change them if you like, but since these aren't real projects yet, I wouldn't sweat it. Mikeyc21 08:36, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

Any objections to me just going through and putting :'s at the start of each line of the info records? -

which does word-wraps ok, and users can use whatever headings they want for each line.--Dave morgan 12:42, 22 May 2006 (PDT)

is there a means to set the PM links to open in a new window? That would be very handy!--JHowse 07:54, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

Right click, open in new tab

or am I just showing my FF habits?--Sigal

Have I just broken the PM links? clicking on the PM link for tiena, ends up trying to PM ketch22, but the user number is correct. The others I have checked seem ok, is there something weird with the user database?--Dave morgan 12:39, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

User number was not correct. Jmdyck 12:48, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

no objections posted, so all entries now in the format -
