Talk:Bestsellers
Someone associated with DP had a lovely page that showed exactly which books were in what state of processing. He was working on getting all of those best-sellers into PG. Unfortunately I don't remember who it was and can't seem to find a bookmark for the page....--JulietS 19:59, 24 May 2006 (PDT)
- It was gnupooh that had a couple bestseller lists with progress pages: http://www.gnupooh.org/bestsellers.html . He's been gone for quite a while now, so it's probably not up to date. Greentea 08:31, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
I changed the first 4 entries to compare the http and etext style of reference. I also prefer to have the book title be the link, but that may not work well for cases like Hound of the Baskervilles, for which there are 2 etexts in PG. Does anyone have a preference one way of the other for the 2 questions? Linden 07:37, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I will help add links if we can decide on a format. I just did the one for 1906 Fiction, and like that format because we can see at a glance whether an HTML version was uploaded or not. Of course we could also link the book titles and indicate "text only" after the title anyway. Should we try that? Greentea 08:31, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I like the current entry style for Unleavened Bread, for example -- title listed first (and linked) followed by the author name. Then I'd suggest we add "text only" after the author name somewhere if there is no HTML available. Greentea 08:37, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I updated 1901 fiction to use this format. Linden 09:07, 28 May 2006 (PDT)

- I've written an extension that might help you. If you use a tag like <pg_formats etext="12345" />, it'll give you [EPUB; HTML; Mobipocket; RDF; Text (us-ascii)]. (We keep a copy of the PG catalogue in the database.) Mikeyc21 09:16, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- Ooh! Neato, Mike! So, I've changed the 1900 entries to link the title, and then include that tag at the end to indicate the formats available. What do you think? (Might be nice to separate that stuff from the titles a wee bit, but I haven't figured out how to make tables yet.) Greentea 10:00, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- New version as we discussed installed. Usage example: <pg_formats etext="12345">The fun book, Marcellus Smith</pg_formats> gives The fun book, Marcellus Smith -- [EPUB; HTML; Mobipocket; RDF; Text (us-ascii)]. Mikeyc21 10:27, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- Lovely! Thank you, Mike! :D Greentea 10:33, 28 May 2006 (PDT)

Ok, I just did 1900 Fiction again with the new tags -- shall we go with this format? Greentea 10:44, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- I like it too. Thanks, Mikey! Two minor issues with the tag -- either the name or list of authors might contain a comma, so using pipe as a separator might be better, and it doesn't gracefully handle being used when there is no separator. Linden 14:02, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
- Good point about the no-separator thing. I made it stop screwing up the page when that happens, at least: [Error: getPgFormats: No comma in input text. Use short tag instead.]. Mikeyc21 21:34, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
Since 1922 fiction contains (tie), I suspect this should be using a numbered list. Linden 18:11, 28 May 2006 (PDT)
This page really needs some updates. I went through a few years checking only if the items were in PG already. I haven't done all the years and I didn't check for in-progress items. -- camomiletea 09:47, 12 September 2011 (PDT)
