Remarks: Unfortunately, I suspect the author's name can be written a dozen different ways, and I'm fairly sure that the book has had several different English titles. It was first published in Switzerland; I wouldn't mind seeing a French or German edition. Wikipedia cites The Oxford Companion to Fairy Tales, so maybe that volume will have more information.
The Internet Archive (usually) transliterates his name as Afanasev, Aleksandr Nikolaevich.
