P3 Archers
The P3 Archers first banded together in August 2007. Through organized and focused rolling groofs, we strive to battle the P3 backlog while promoting P3 Pride. During the week, we proof projects nearing P3 completion (usually 100 pages remaining or less, depending on project difficulty). During Archer Weekend, our project list includes suggestions of straight-forward P3 titles in various genres that folks might find enjoyable; requests for P3 groofing partners are welcome. See the Archers gap game for the list of projects that we are currently working on.
Special terms
Decade is a group of ten page numbers such as 1-10, 51-60, 111-120 etc.
Groofing is GRoup prOOFING. This is when more than one person planfully work on a project together. They can check out sequential pages and work on them or leapfrog one anoher selecting the next page to work on randomly as they complete a page.
The P3 Projects selected
First of all, as named in the title, the P3 Archers work on projects that are in the P3 round.
Originally the target projects were ones that were nearing completion, but not down to just indices and ads. A few were available at a time and the P3 Archers would "swarm" over the final pages of a book and group proof ("groof") it to completion. Most days there would be one or more members make an announcement in the thread in the nature of "I'm going to work on "name of project" anyone care to join me?" Someone else might or might not post that they were going to work on the same or different project. A while later, whether the project was complete or not, if someone had joined, there would be another post, "Thanks for the groof!". I don't remember the details, the moderator of the GAP stopped updating it, the team became inactive. Then WebRover asked the creator and host of the P3 Archers GAP tool for Admin access and brought the GAP back to active use.
Requests came to the administrator by PM and in the Forum thread to add an occasional neglected project that was much higher in the number of pages remaining that was seeing little progress and had been in P3 for quite a while. Those projects got added and worked on.
Projects were added at request to help assess P3 applications.
And forgetting that the Queue Busters team has their own GAP game available, the administrator started adding queue busting projects to the Archers GAP Game.
As projects were added for different reasons, the Administrator added explanations to the GAP for the non-original purposes.
Any PM who would prefer a specific project or any and all of their projects not be included in the game need only send a Private Message to the Administrator or post in the P3 Archers' team thread.
P3 Archers GAP
The Archers gap game was built by a volunteer at DP and he hosts it on his server. It allows team members to see what projects are identified as Archers' Targets and track their progress. It's less manual effort than updating a list in a forum thread. And it's colorful! The GAP automatically refreshes every 300 seconds (5 minutes).
GAP Column Headers
All of the Column contents are automatically generated except the contents of the Blank headed column. This information is provided by the Administrator.
- Avail: Number of pages that are available to proof. Does not include pages that are checked "out" but not complete, nor pages that are "Temp"
- Avg Size: Average number of bytes (almost the same as characters) per page (b/p).
- Age: How many days the project has been in P3 available.
- Rate: Average number of pages per day removed from available since project arrived as P3 available.
- Age Done: At the rate of pages per day, how many total days it's expected the project will be in P3 Available before all pages are checked out/done.
- Blank (Also called but not labeled Reason column): The Administrator provides the content for this. Currently showing
- EASY or HARD (No notation for average)
- Language if it's other than plain English
- Genre (e.g. Travel, History, General Fiction, etc.)
- (nn) number of pages available or not "Saved" when the project is added to the GAP
- Any special reason the project is on the list
- Title: This is the title from the Project.
Sorting Columns
Click on one of the Column Headers and the GAP will be sorted on the contents of that column. Click again and it reverses the order. When the GAP refreshes, it defaults back to smallest to largest number of pages available.
The Colors
The GAP is divided into "Decades" or groups of 10 numbers.
- 0
- 1-10
- 11-20 etc.
The decades default to Gray if nothing or only one project appears in it.
If two or more projects are in the same decade and the tens digit of the decade is an even number, both stripes are Gold.
If two or more projects are in the same decade and the tens digit of the decade is an odd number, both stripes are Orange.
If there's a GAP of more than 5 decades, the decades collapse and the GAP turns Red.
Some folks like to proof to fill up as many of the decades as possible and get them to turn grey. Some folks like to make the GAP as colorful as possible.
Quality, Quality, Quality
While it is fun to watch the number of pages dwindle, the colors change and see projects complete, there is no intention to cause people to rush their proofing or complete pages at the sacrifice of careful proofing.
