The pages are generally in a single-column, straightforward format. Some volumes are in a double-column format. There appears to be no deviations from the Guidelines. Any deviation in a particular report will be noted in the Project Comments for that report.
As is common practice in horticultural publications, Latin botanical names are shown in italics. There is at least one table in each report (Treasurer’s Report), and there may be others. Some projects have huge tables. Special instructions for these will be supplied in the discussion thread for that report.
An HTML version will be required for each report and page anchors are a requirement. I will be creating a comprehensive index, which will be available on the NNGA website, linking to individual articles, as well as by topic. As a result, it will be necessary to be able to extract links to individual pages within the reports once they are published to Project Gutenberg.
Where illustrations are included, JPEGS will be made available with the project files. Some reports contain tables. Each report has a Table of Contents, which will need to be linked to the individual articles.
The Author's name should appear as "Northern Nut Growers Association"
The Title is as shown on the cover and title page. The project name is a working title only. The sub-title is the location and dates of the meeting, as shown on the title page. The following is for the 1915 report:
Title: Northern Nut Growers Association, report of the proceedings at the sixth annual meeting Subtitle: Rochester, New York, September 1 and 2, 1915 Author: Northern Nut Growers Association
A DISCLAIMER is required!
The NNGA has requested that a disclaimer be added to each Project Gutenberg e-text. This is necessary as the Association is still in existence and some of the recommendations made in earlier years may not be appropriate today. One example that comes readily to mind is the use of DDT on nut orchards. The wording of this disclaimer, which should go at the beginning of the e-text (after the PG preamble), is as follows:
DISCLAIMER The articles published in the Annual Reports of the Northern Nut Growers Association are the findings and thoughts solely of the authors and are not to be construed as an endorsement by the Northern Nut Growers Association, its board of directors, or its members. No endorsement is intended for products mentioned, nor is criticism meant for products not mentioned. The laws and recommendations for pesticide application may have changed since the articles were written. It is always the pesticide applicator's responsibility, by law, to read and follow all current label directions for the specific pesticide being used. The discussion of specific nut tree cultivars and of specific techniques to grow nut trees that might have been successful in one area and at a particular time is not a guarantee that similar results will occur elsewhere.
