Abbreviations and Numerals

When the abbreviations "B.C.", "A.D.", "A.M.", and "P.M." are in small caps, we mark them that way, always in all upper-case. We do not include the year or time in the markups: they are like the Guidelines' example of abbreviated British currency symbols: "It cost 9<i>l.</i> 4<i>s.</i> 1<i>d.</i>", and not like the example of an italicized date in the heading of a letter: "<i>Enacted 4 July, 1776</i>".
