201

This is a Title Page, which is a Major Division. Precede it with four blank lines and enclose all of the text in a pair of no-wrap tags. No in-line formatting is needed and there is no illustration, so there's nothing else to do.

The formatters retained all the blank lines received from the proofing rounds; it might be appropriate (but not necessary) to delete some of them, since the Title Page is entirely in no-wraps, and only use blank lines to show logical grouping.

At the bottom of the page, the names of the cities are spread out, but the intention likely was decorative rather than for emphasis, so we do not tag them as gesperrt <g>.

202

This is either a preface or the beginning of the main body of text; in either case, it's a Major Division, so precede it with four blank lines and follow the heading with two blank lines. The heading is wrappable, so just leave it single-spaced and untagged.

Enclose the inscription near the bottom in no-wraps. It's not poetry, so you could leave it left-justified, but the post-processor almost certainly will center the text. The lines are so short that you can save PP a little work by doing the centering, but it isn't required.

203

Small-caps text occurs on the same lines as normal text, so tag each instance. They are all-upper-case, so make sure they remain that way in the formatted text. We do not use all-lower-case small-caps at DP (except in very rare situations specified by the Project Comments).

204

The small-caps text near the top of the page is all upper-case, so make sure it's that way in the formatted text. Near the bottom of the page is some mixed-case small-caps.

Enclose the quotation from Horace in no-wraps and replicate the indentation, using an even number of spaces. At least one line in any no-wraps block must be left-justified.

Both of the italics phrases near the bottom of the page contain commas, but they don't seem to be in-line lists, so use just one pair of tags for each of them.

205

There are two all upper-case small-caps sentences near the top of the page. Enclose each of them in small-caps tags. Place the final period of the second sentence (as well as the first) INSIDE the tags: even though there's a non-small-caps word in the second sentence, the emphasis clearly was meant to be on the entire sentence.

Near the bottom of the page is an inscription. Enclose it in no-wraps and replicate the indentation. At least one line in any no-wraps block must be left-justified.

206

The extra white space (blank lines) near the top is a thought break, so add that tag, surrounded by blank lines.

"B.C." is in small-caps. It's an abbreviation, so both periods go INSIDE the tags.

The last word on the page (not counting the footnote, of course) is hyphenated and in italics. This is the proper way to format it: <i>pater-*</i> It happens that the next example in our Self-Evaluation project is the next page in the same book, so we can see that the continuation of the word is: <i>*familias</i>. Formatting them this way makes it easy for post-processing to just remove the "*</i><i>*" from the middle, and results in "<i>pater-familias</i>". If the hyphen isn't needed, it'll be easy to remove.

207

This is the kind of page that reminds you to be really careful when formatting. Lots of italics, many of which are just one or two letters in length, and one of which is in a word that's partly upright and partly in italics. The same word is entirely in italics in the footnote.

208

The small-caps in the first paragraph is all upper-case, so make sure it's the same way in the formatted text (and remember to tag it).

Enclose the inscription that's surrounded by extra white space in no-wraps, and replicate the indentation, using an even number of spaces. At least one line in any no-wraps block must be left-justified.

There's Greek in the footnote. We do not tag Greek as italics even if it looks that way.

209

Enclose the inscription that's surrounded by extra white space in no-wraps, and replicate the indentation, using an even number of spaces. At least one line in any no-wraps block must be left-justified.

The small-caps in the second paragraph is all upper-case, so make sure it's the same way in the formatted text (and remember to tag it).

210

The in-line inscriptions are in all upper-case small-caps. Tag them and make sure they are all upper-case.
