DPWiki talk:Deleting and Merging
But if a page is being deleted in favour of some other page (e.g., in the case of a merge), wouldn't it be better to replace the page with a redirect to the surviving page, rather than mark it for deletion? Jmdyck 03:38, 21 May 2006 (PDT)
- Er, yes. Thanks. Mikeyc21 07:01, 21 May 2006 (PDT)
Merged/redirected pages should be marked for deletion and any pages listed in the "What links here" for the redirected page should be updated to link directly to the new page. Caw 07:29, 22 May 2006 (PDT)
Please be very careful with this! There are lots of links from the forums to the wiki. By deleting the redirect, you may break the links we've placed on the forums directing people to the page that has the content they want. I would much rather we do not delete any of these redirects until far more people are familiar with the wiki. Vaguery 07:58, 22 May 2006 (PDT)
- The wiki is only a couple days old -- how many links are there from the forums? Also, I'm not saying that the redirects should be deleted right away, but they definitely should be marked for deletion in the future. I assume at some point we'll have an official policy for how long to keep this sort of stuff Caw 08:24, 22 May 2006 (PDT)
