Resolved. Robert had already embarked on this. I have been directed to not worry about the accuracy of these text in respect to any particular printing.
Igniter:
The entire reason why I started on this was to figure out which version should have _which_ cover image from _which_ printing. At this point the only thing I can really point to is that 2701 was _probably_ sourced from the UK printing, at one point. 2701 is the most downloaded book on PG. It has been the most downloaded book on the site for at least a month. With that kind of traffic, it feels like it should be accurate, and double checked, and deserves an appropriate cover image.

Plan:
1) #15 - The PG edition. Well coded, consistent between HTML and text version, along with Transcriber's Notes that clearly states the changes. Cover set as it is today. (Custom PG cover.) Original etext seems to be complete, including the Epilogue and phrases such as "crucifixion in his face" which were included in the US version. It has the full text of the US title page, and includes italicized text in the HTML.
2) #2489 - Arranged and aligned to the first US printing. Attempt to make this as consistent as possible with the US first edition as scanned and presented by https://melville.electroniclibrary.org/ Text version to match. (Cover derived from the US title page.) - #2489, seems to have the text rearranged (Etymology and Extracts moved to the end of the book) as the UK edition had, but it also includes the censored phrase "crucifixion in his face" which should not be in there, as well as the epilogue, though it is poorly marked up, which makes me wonder if it was a 'late correction' where a PG volunteer took the UK edition and tacked on the 'missing' text... as well as changing the spelling to US. but...
3) #2701 - Arranged and aligned to the first UK printing, with the matter moved and removed as necessary. Transcriber's Notes updated to match. Sourced from https://melville.electroniclibrary.org/ Text version to match. (Cover derived from the UK title page.) ...#2701 HAS THE BRITISH SPELLING. Favourite, for instance, is consistently spelled in this version along with other ou/o s/z spelling differences. But the text itself still includes the censored phrases that should be replaced and the Etymology/Extracts are at the start!
