Old Books
You may find it useful to refer to [Proofing Old Texts](https://www.pgdp.net/wiki/DP_Official_Documentation:Proofreading/Proofing_old_texts).
* Proof each 'long s' (ſ) as a normal letter 's'; match the scans for everything else, retaining the original spelling.
Chapbooks
### 🕮 Chapbooks
A chapbook is a small, inexpensive booklet of 8-24 pages. The format was particularly popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, when printing was becoming more affordable. Older chapbooks were somewhat crudely made, which can make them difficult to read (uneven inking, words on the other side of the page showing through, and so on). It’s common for the publisher’s name to appear, but no individual author or illustrator be credited.
Gaelic
Please refer to the [Scottish Gaelic](https://www.pgdp.net/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic) page for tips on proofing the language.
Scots
Note that there is no Scots dictionary in WordCheck, but you may find the [Dictionaries of the Scots Language](https://dsl.ac.uk/) useful.
Latin
Please refer to the [Latin Category](https://www.pgdp.net/wiki/Category:Latin) for help proofing the language.
Esperanto
### ⍟ Esperanto

Like any language, Esperanto has changed over time; books in the public domain are from the early days of Esperanto, so the usage and orthography can differ from modern Esperanto. You may find [Esperanto for Proofers](https://www.pgdp.net/wiki/Esperanto_for_Proofers) a useful reference while proofing.
* Characters with diacritics are available in the character picker
* There should be a space after _l'_ (elided "la"); for example, "l'afero" should be proofed as "l' afero"
* Treat em-dashes as words, leaving spaces around them
* Replace „German-style quotes“ with "straight quotes".
