DISTRIBUTED POSTPROCESSING EXPERIMENT
Basic assumptions
- DIVISION OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Text-PPer: responsible for all aspects of the text
stream: spelling, special characters (hyphens, quotes, etc.), typos in the printed version.
- Format-PPer: responsible for all aspects of markup:
HTML tags, DP formatting syntax, page numbers, crossreferences.
- DU-er: responsible for final QA as always (may be either text-PPer for Format-PPer.
- Media Specialists: may be asked to provide graphics, music, etc.
- PP TOOLS:
- Toolchain-agnostic: HERE, that means that the file handed over from text-PPer to format-PP should look as much as possible like the file that came directly from the DP rounds (assuming the DP rounds did their job perfectly and omnisciently). Different syntax can be specified: the PP-formatter parses for fun.
- Flexible: specific tasks should be exchangeable between team members per negotiation. It's the job of the "Chief PPer" to be most flexible.
- PPV PROCEDURES:
- One team member will have DU rights, and will take final responsibility for the book.
- Any team members without DU rights, should receive a review/grade from someone with PPV certification (with a view towards obtaining DU rights.)
