Steps for cleaning copyright on old books and magazines (part 3)
- Check Renewals page for date of renewal.
- Search Contento index and isfdb.org for first publication info.
- For items first published 1952 or later Search copyright.gov.
- For items first published in 1948 or before search the Gutenberg 11800 site.
- For items first published 1949-1951, search both copyright.gov and 11800 above. You must clear ALL copyright dates for a given publication.
- Another option is to confirm copyright dates at the Stanford list. This list only contains A records, not the B records for copyrights. And it only includes original registrations 1923 or later.
