A proofreader, mentor, P3-evaluator, and all-purpose know-it-all in DP-proofing. I know little about the other functions, but I know some knowledgeable DPers!
During my mentoring years in P2, I accumulated a portfolio of Basic Proofing Skills and Advanced Answers to smoothe the path to proofing fun.
I am thinking of creating a similar wiki page for my own information about the best way to go about evaluating the work of an applicant for P3. I might start something which I can't finish ...
I live in South Africa, near Cape Town in a gated village with 1K cranky retired people and relatively serene environment.
By the time people in the USA wake up, I have been proofing for about 6 hours. And if I'm not quick, the Australians and New Zealanders will be in bed when I need to contact them.
What do I do on my computer, besides DP? Setting quiz questions (about 800 per year) for a local quiz I run about sixteen times per year. There are nine teams competing for a trophy, and a wildly enthusiastic audience.
And for exercise? (I hear the concern in your voice.) I run a line dancing class twice a week for five hours altogether. It's the combination of logical footwork, enthusing music, companionship (with other weirdos who love line dancing), mental demands, physical benefits, and more.
The love of my life (apart from the obvious) is my Brown (Sable) Burmese, Genji (The Shining Prince). He costs me more in cat food than fuel for the car.
One of the little-regarded benefits of having children is how much you learn from them and their interests.
GBS said that the reasonable man adapts himself to the world (if it ain't broke, don't fix it), continuing, the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself (nothing is so good that it can't be better) and, therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. I belong firmly in the second camp; see the smiley face userbox below.
