Talk:Proofreading Guidelines Explanation

From DPWiki

I've noticed that many of the additions to this page are elaborating on the guidelines (e.g. ellipses, -- vs. ----, illustrations, and sidenotes), rather than explaining why the guidelines are the way they are. The info is useful, so I don't want to just remove it, but my impression is that this page isn't the right place to put it. I don't know if there's a better place, though. Does any one have ideas or comments? Acunning40 14:07, 8 June 2006 (PDT)

You've got a good point. I put the -- vs ---- stuff in because it seemed that the hints were helpful and preserved somewhere, but it isn't answering the question "why is it done." The other ones seem to be the same. But on the other hand we don't want to make the existing guidelines any longer than they have to be, and we don't have the authority to be writing official guidelines. I'll acknowledge the problem but sit on the fence about the solution. --Nicola K 15:09, 8 June 2006 (PDT)
