What about proofreading comments? Do we need to prefix these with % to make them into Latex comments? Jonathan Webley 05:25, 16 September 2008 (PDT)

Yes; it's covered in a couple places in the LaTeX text formatting guidelines. :) Acunning40 06:18, 16 September 2008 (PDT)

In-line Maths

Variables are enclosed in $s (e.g. $x$). What about lines in geometry - OP and the like? In the text they are italicised, so is it textit{OP} or $OP$? Jonathan Webley 23:38, 18 September 2008 (PDT)

If an object is maths then it goes inside dollars, whether or not it is printed in an italic font. If it's italic text then it goes in \textit. You have to do your best to ascertain the semantics of what is being formatted. There are some subtle differences between $OP$ and \textit{OP}, such as that there is no kerning applied in math mode.
