First-person accounts of slavery
Each story is from one to several pages long. The interviewers were employed under one of the "Alphabet Soup" projects of the FDR administration during the Great Depression, just prior to WWII.
The original images can also be found at the Library of Congress site, as can further background on the Slave Narratives project.

The Library of Congress does not have text versions of this material. Without our contribution, these volumes would not be searchable nor would their contents be accessible to those without the software or network connection to support image-viewing. This is a prime example of "Preserving History One Page at a Time".
