Faklen was a quarterly periodical published by the Norwegian branch of the Salvation Army (Frelsesarmeen), focusing on their slum work. It ran from 1904 up to and including 1970, at which point it and other of Frelsesarmeen's more specialised periodicals got incorporated into their main publication, Krigsropet, which from 1971 got expanded from 16 to 24 pages. Faklen had four 16-page issues yearly throughout its history.

As of 1914, the typeface was changed from Fraktur to Antiqua. Although the Fraktur font used in 1913 at least is not a particularly difficult one, and it even differentiates between I and J, which normally Fraktur fonts don't do.
