I came across this writer browsing Clute's Illustrated SF Encyclopedia.

11800 search on Coates and titles didn't find the Eater of Darkness novel - there are a bunch of stories in the New Yorker, Harper's, Redbook etc., that could be in some of the story collections, not knowing the contents I can't say.

Eater of Darkness I did not find. More searching to be done on the others.
