Pounds, shillings and pence
In pre-decimal British currency, l., s., and d. are abbreviations for the Latin words libra, solidus, and denarius, meaning pounds, shillings, and pence.
Include the periods in the italics markup, since they belong to the abbreviation, but not the numbers. This is different from how we handle italicized dates; see Example 22A.
