DPFoundation:State of DPF/State of DPF in 2015
The past year (May 2014 - June 2015) has been fairly quiet, in relative terms, for both the DPF Board and the DP site. For the Board, much of what has taken place has been handling routine matters and refining future directions. Job Description/Responsibility documents were created for the officer positions as a natural extension of the existing document for Trustees. Work has also progressed on several long-term items, including the creation of a more formal budget, and an initial reboot of the long-term planning process itself. The board has also voiced support for implementing secure access (https) and the eventual support of UTF-8.
The strategy of defining future directions has also been a focus for General Manager Linda Hamilton. During her first year as GM, DP has continued to refine and enhance site code and procedures, working towards several of our organizational long-term goals. The Board is pleased with the progress the GM has made, and anticipates more of the same in the future.
The Treasurer has created a draft budget and is working with the full Board to accurately capture actual expenses (incurred and non-incurred), planned expenses, current budget reserves, and the creation of new reserves for promotional activities, etc. The "non-incurred" expenses are those which are currently covered by various volunteers (blog), PG (domains), and the Internet Archive (test/archive server).
Federal Corporate 990N and NJ 501C3 are current and filed with the appropriate agencies. The fiscal year definition has been clarified in documentation to correspond to the calendar year.
As of 31 Dec 2014, DPF has $11,997.47 in its accounts. Donations received have been sufficient to cover operating expenses, and there is no danger of running out of funds for the next several years.
Volunteers will have noted that the location on the page for donation information has been changed for better visibility and to clarify what donation options are available.
DP was promoted at two events since the last State of DPF. Attendance at both of these events originated from our volunteers, and was supported by the DPF Board. Volunteers are encouraged to suggest similar events where DP can promote our efforts. Funding support is available as appropriate.
The first event was The Word on the Street (National Book and Magazine Festival), held in Toronto ON, Canada - 21 September 2014. GM Linda Hamilton and other volunteers staffed a table presenting DP, DP-Canada, and PG. A brief mention can be found in this forum post.
The second event was Linux Days, held in Chemnitz, Germany - 21-22 March 2015. Constanze (alisea) Hofmann and other DP volunteers staffed a booth presenting DP. Her report on the event can be viewed in this forum post.
DP now has a Twitter account (managed by the Blog Team): DProofreaders.
In lieu of creating a site specifically for the DPF Board, a protected section was created on the wiki.
