Critical Apparatus
Primary Rule: In critical apparatus there are no flyspecks.
Numbers
Superscript numerals mean line numbers. Full-size numerals mean pages. So the form 16-223 means "from line 16 through line 3 of page 22". Full-size numerals followed by a period 2. are ordinals: "the second occurrence of..."
For proofing/formatting purposes, lone superscripts are treated as plain numbers, as if they were footnote references. Only the superscripts attached to page numbers get the superscript ^ treatment

Main Text
Formatting
The first few lines of the main text, proofed and formatted. This is not carved in stone. If you think you know a better way to format it, it may be because you do. The “translation” and “expanded” sections are included purely for the proofer/formatter’s information. You do not have to do this in the actual project!
