Instructions for Smooth Reading

2018-01-11 17:04 uploaded by KirkwoodCW

Thank you for considering smooth reading "Paganism Surviving in Christianity." This 309 page book published in 1892 does not have any illustrations, but it does have quite a few footnotes. These may be easier to deal with using the links in the web browser, ePub, or kindle version. You can download these from dropbox using the links below. (If you are asked to sign-in to dropbox, just click the "No thanks, continue to view" link at the bottom of the sign-in dialog to download the file.)

To give you an idea of the content of this book, the author says, "He who thinks that the Christianity of the fourth century was identical with that of the New-Testament period, will go widely astray.... [A]t the point where the average student takes up the history of Western Christianity, it was already fundamentally corrupted by pagan theories and practices." Chapter titles include "Sunday Observance Unknown to Christianity before the Middle of the Second Century," and "The Control of Christianity by the State under Constantine and his Successors."

If you don't want to deal with the footnotes or the index, I'll still appreciate your review of the body of the text.

Thanks again for considering smooth reading this book, and I look forward to your comments.
